Section 63 and DECs in Scotland

Section 63 and DECs in Scotland

We are pleased to announce that ecmk Ltd have been granted certification to allow Section 63 and DEC lodgements in Scotland by the Energy Saving Trust.

This is a great opportunity for all non-domestic Energy Assessors operating in Scotland to offer this service to new and existing customers. Current non-domestic Green Deal Assessors and DEC Assessors can apply now!

ecmk being the first accreditation scheme to receive the certification, we would like to announce that we will be running a series of training sessions to upskill to the new strand, and provide the market with another possible revenue stream. Assessors will ideally be qualified non-domestic Energy Assessors practising in Scotland to complete Section 63 assessments. We will also be offering DEC training to non-domestic Energy Assessors.

What is Section 63?

Regulations apply from 1 September 2016. They apply to larger buildings, those with a floor area of more than 1,000 m² and are triggered by either sale or by lease to a new tenant. Generally, owners of such buildings also require to provide a valid Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) in such situations.  Buildings that meet energy standards equivalent to those introduced by the 2002 building regulations (these buildings are already reasonably energy efficient); or are already improved via a Green Deal (a UK Government funding mechanism) are exempted from the regulations.
