TRAINING
ECMK is an ABBE-approved Assessment Centre delivering a range of awards for prospective Energy Assessors which are part of the National Qualifications Framework.
We operate mainly from our dedicated Training Centre in Milton Keynes but we are happy to run courses at other locations where required.
We currently offer the following awards: |
Diploma in Domestic Energy Assessment (DipDEA)
ECMK can provide you with all you need to become a Domestic Energy Assessor. Energy Performance Certificates are now required for all existing dwellings on sale, and will be required on rental properties later this year.
The course is based on ECMK's class-leading EPC software for PCs and PDAs.
Course format: 1 day induction, 2 days RdSAP training and 1 day practical, 3 days assessment – course duration 5-6 weeks. Candidates also need to take an ABBE external examination in order to complete the award, dates for which are available from ABBE.
For further information, please call our training hotline on 08456 123999 or email training@ecmk.co.uk

Diploma in On-Construction Energy Assessment (DipOCEA)
ECMK can provide you with all you need to become an Energy Assessor for New-Build Dwellings. Energy Performance Certificates will be required for all new dwellings on-construction, and accredited Energy Assessors will be needed from April 2008.
The course is based on the SAP 2005 and Uvalue Professional software from JPA TL and includes a licence for the software. We offer two versions of the course, one for candidates with knowledge of construction technologies and building plans, one for those with no experience. Both lead to the DipOCEA award.
Course format: 1 day induction, 1 day construction and building regulations (optional), 2.5 software training and practical, 2 days assessment.

Level 3 Diploma in Non-Dwellings Energy Assessment (DipNDEA L3)
ECMK can provide you with all you need to become an Energy Assessor for Commercial Buildings at Level 3.
Energy Performance Certificates will be required for all commercial buildings on sale, rental or construction during 2008. Level 3 Energy Assessors are able to produce EPCs for existing commercial buildings with “frequently occurring characteristics”, that is with simple heating systems (boilers up to 100kW), simple natural ventilation, small comfort cooling systems (up to 12kW) and typical fabric and lighting systems. Most such buildings (less than 2,500 sq m floor area) will require an EPC on sale or rental from October 2008.
The course is based on the SBEM methodology. We offer courses using two software packages:
- iSBEM - a free-to-use package with a simple numerical interface
- Design Builder – a proprietary system with a graphical interface and more comprehensive design capabilities
Course format: 1 day induction, 1 day building construction and services, 2 days software training and 1 day practical, 2 days assessment – course duration 5-6 weeks. Candidates also need to take an ABBE external examination in order to complete the award, dates for which are available from ABBE.
We expect to offer a Level 4 DipNDEA course in the near future, which would qualify you to assess larger, more complex buildings using the SBEM methodology.

Diploma in Display Energy Certificates (DipDEC)
Display Energy Certificates will be required for all public buildings each year and an Advisory Report every seven years. Accredited Energy Assessors will be needed from April 2008 and all public buildings must have their first DEC and Advisory Report by October 2008.
A DipDEC award for Energy Assessors for Public Buildings is expected to be available very shortly and ECMK will be running courses for this – please check our website www.ecmk.co.uk or contact us directly for news of course dates.

RDSAP
ECMK offer a training course in the RDSAP methodology based on our class-leading EPC software for PCs and PDAs. The course includes the production of three EPCs.
This is suitable for candidates who will gather RDSAP data and enter it into the software to calculate EPCs but is not sufficient qualification for accreditation as a Domestic Energy Assessor - DEAs must complete the DipDEA award. ECMK’s RDSAP training module is recognised by ABBE for Accreditation of Prior Achievement (APA), giving credit for three EPCs in a subsequent DipDEA portfolio.

HHSRS
This course provides public and private sector Surveyors with training on Decent Homes, HHSRS and Condensed HHSRS surveying techniques.
The adoption of the Housing Health and Safety Rating System as the primary indicator of housing minimum standards (from April 2006) means that all staff need training and awareness in the new system.
You can decide whether to adopt the Warwick School of Law full scoring format or the Condensed Identification method devised by Birmingham City Council's Private Sector Housing Team to capture Category One Hazards. Both systems can be incorporated into the training, with ongoing support provided.

CPD Programme
All Accredited Energy Assessors are required to undertake 16 hours of training for Continuing Professional Development each year. ECMK runs a regular programme of one-day CPD courses, each counting for 8 hours of CPD. Currently, these cover topics of interest to DEAs but we expect to add further courses relevant to the other Energy Assessment strands in the near future.
