Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme (ESOS) Training and Certification

ECMK offer approved training and certification to anyone interested in becoming an ESOS Lead Assessor.

ESOS is the government’s new energy-saving initiative introduced in response to the EU’s Energy Efficiency Directive. It is aimed at what it describes as “large undertakings” – firms with more than 250 employees or a turnover of more than £39.5m and a balance sheet exceeding £33,486,489m at 31 December 2014.

This is a great opportunity experienced industry practitioners who wish to develop their careers further with a market leading training and certification scheme.

ESOS Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme is almost here.

What is it?

ESOS is a brand new mandatory energy assessment and energy saving identification scheme for businesses in the UK.

The scheme aims to save the UK at least £1.6bn in energy costs by the year 2030.

When is it happening?

The date for assessing if your business fits the qualifying criteria is 31 December 2014. Compliance with ESOS is then expected by 5th December 2015.


ESOS will mandate energy audits for around 9,000 UK businesses.

You are likely to be eligible for ESOS if, on the qualification date of 31st December 2014 for the first phase of ESOS) you are:

  • An Undertaking which has 250 or more employees in the UK.
  • An Undertaking which has fewer than 250 employees, but has:
  • An Annual turnover exceeding £39.5 and a balance sheet exceeding £39.5m
  • Part of a corporate group which includes an undertaking which meets criteria 1 or 2 above.

Participants of ESOS will require a ‘lead assessor’ (please take a look at paragraph 5.1 in the guide link above) to undertake various roles in relation to their ESOS assessment. ecmk have a register of approved lead assessors.

Applicants must hold a qualification certificate from an Ofqual approved body for the production of Display Energy Certificates (DEC) and/or for Non-domestic Green Deal assessments and two years of professional energy assessment and energy audit experience relevant to the PAS 51215 within a commercial or industrial setting.
