The member support behind the Accreditation

Hello! My name is Scarlett and I’m learning right alongside you!

As part of the ecmk Member Management Team, I’m one of the voices you might hear when you call in!

I’ve been with ecmk for a year and a half now during which I’ve had extensive training around the energy assessment industry and, in particular, EPCs, PAS2035, and the vital role our accredited professionals play in the UK’s path to net-zero.

This steep learning curve has given me a real appreciation for just how complex and crucial your job is. That’s why I wanted to write this post – to introduce you to who the member management team is and what we do to support you.

The support behind the Accreditation:

ecmk’s Member Management Team

The ecmk member management team serves as the first point of contact for all our assessors, from those exploring accreditation to our long-standing members.

Our primary role is to ensure a smooth journey for energy assessors through the two critical phases: achieving accreditation and maintaining it successfully.

How We Support You:

  • Accreditation Guidance: We manage the necessary steps involved in accreditation, ensuring you have the resources needed to operate.
  • Continued Professional Development: We organise and deliver essential Continued Professional Development (CPD) training.
  • Issue Resolution: We manage administrative requirements, including necessary suspensions, and work to resolve any issues quickly and fairly.

In essence, we are your dedicated support system. Our focus is on making the process of joining ecmk, and remaining an accredited member, efficient and straightforward.

Tips from the Auditing Team

  1. Create every assessment like it’s going to be audited – This principle means approaching every job with the highest standard of diligence, ensuring every data point is supported by clear evidence, and every calculation is defensible. By acting as your own toughest auditor, you minimize common errors, guarantee full compliance with scheme requirements, and establish yourself as a highly credible and trustworthy professional. It’s the simplest way to move from completing a task to delivering a demonstrably robust and quality-assured assessment every single time.
  2. Take pride in your work and your worth – Taking pride in your work ensures that you deliver the highest quality assessments, which not only builds your professional reputation but also reinforces the vital role you play in upholding the integrity of the energy assessment industry. You’re the energy professional with valuable knowledge and experience—so make sure both the excellent service you provide and the fee you charge truly reflect your worth!
  3. Remember to bring… – If you rely on a torch or laser measure, make sure you always have spare batteries on hand—there’s nothing worse than running out of power halfway through a loft check! Also, check that your torch is strong enough to properly light up every dark space. A simple box of disposable shoe covers is a lifesaver. This thoughtful touch protects your customer’s flooring from outdoor dirt, is a great sign of professionalism, and shows respect for their home.
  4. Using a telescopic ladder? Do regular safety checks! – Your personal safety must always come first. Since telescopic ladders require careful maintenance due to their moving parts, make it a non-negotiable routine to visually inspect all mechanisms, locks, and hinges before every single use. This simple, consistent check ensures your equipment is always functioning correctly, allowing you to access loft spaces safely and maintain the highest level of professionalism on site.
  5. Pre research your properties – Before you even step out the door, take a few minutes for digital reconnaissance! Using Google Earth to view the property gives you a head start, helping you visualize the layout and spot potential access issues, outbuildings, or complex extensions—so you know exactly what you’re walking into. Equally valuable is reviewing the property’s previous EPCs. This isn’t just about copying data; it helps you identify historic data entry points, note previous recommendations, and know exactly what to look for on site, ultimately saving you time and ensuring a more accurate, informed assessment.

From my desk in member management to the assessments you’re completing across the country, it’s clear that the work we do together is both challenging and profoundly important. At ecmk, we’re so much more than just an accreditation body; we’re a supportive partner dedicated to helping you succeed.

We believe in making compliance straightforward, whether you’re aiming for a clean audit sheet or simply need advice on becoming accredited, we are here for you.

Thank you for being a vital part of the UK’s journey toward a greener future. We’re proud to have you as an ecmk member!
